Falling Walls Lab Slovakia
In 2017 Falling Walls Lab came to Slovakia for the very first time, and successfully established its position among stakeholders from the field of research and innovation coming from academia and business. The second edition in 2018 reached even broader audience and received higher recognition, ensuring Slovak innovators two places in the world Falling Walls Lab Finale. Therefore, Falling Walls Lab Slovakia will again take place in 2020.
The FWLS2020 competition will take place on October 1st, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic which is difficult to predict, we have decided, following numerous local Labs as well as the entire Falling Walls conference, to go digital for FWLS2020.
Thus, students, young researchers, scientists, innovators, teachers, entrepreneurs and professionals will still have an opportunity to present their ground-breaking findings, ideas, research projects or business models. Moreover, thanks to moving to the digital sphere, their potential outreach will be much greater – both nationally and internationally.
Online applications for young innovators to present their groundbreaking ideas and projects are available at http://www.falling-walls.com.
International Labs and the Finale in Berlin
The first Falling Walls Lab took place in 2011 in Berlin one day prior to the Falling Walls Conference. Thanks to the huge success of the Falling Walls Lab 2011, the Falling Walls Foundation extended the format to a global scale in 2012. Since then, international Labs take place in different vibrant cities around the world throughout the year. So far, Falling Walls Labs have taken place in almost 50 countries. The Falling Walls Lab Finale is held each year in Berlin on 8 November. This year, due to COVID-19 pandemic circumstances that made it impossible to hold a traditional conference and bring everyone to Berlin in person, Fallig Walls decided to go digital for its 2020 edition. This also applies to the Falling Walls Lab concept. Instead of the traditional finale, winners of local Labs will take part in The Falling Walls Breakthroughs of the Year (a global digital showcase that will present some of the most recent breakthroughs, outstanding science projects and bright minds globally), in its “Emerging Talents” category.
Why you should be part of it
Being part of the Falling Walls Lab will inspire you and provide you with insights by other participants, decision makers of enterprises leading in innovation and distinguished representatives of scientific institutions.
The winner of every international Falling Walls Lab will be one of the 100 finalists in the category “Emerging Talents” (= the Lab category). They will have to hand in a video of their pitch which will be published on social media, the Falling Walls website and on other channels. The jury will scan all 100 videos and select 10 winners. These 10 winners will participate in the “Emerging Talents” category day taking place in early 4 November, and have the chance to become the “FW Breakthrough of the Year” of their category.
